With the rapidly evolving situation and ongoing concerns about COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Vice President for Student Affairs’ office continues to closely monitor the latest information from the university since your well-being is our number one priority.

Our leadership is meeting regularly to address and enact prevention and response efforts as the situation continues to evolve. Thank you for your patience while additional changes and modifications may be necessary.

Operational Updates

The Vice President for Student Affairs’ office is closed but team members are working remotely, available via email and phone during business hours Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Center for Students in Recovery

Counseling and Mental Health Center

  • The center is closed, but counseling and psychiatric services are available via phone. For crises after hours or on weekends, CMHC Crisis Line at (512) 471-2255 is available 24/7.
  • Some groups will still be able to meet, though the group format or delivery will be adjusted due to the requirements for social distancing. Some groups will be cancelled. For students who are already participating in a group, their group leader will be reaching out with specific information about their group status.

New Student Services

Office of the Dean of Students

  • The office is closed to walk-in traffic, but staff are working remotely during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., including Student Emergency Services.
  • Student Emergency Services is providing support services that include emergency housing, food delivery and technology assistance. Students can fill out this form for consideration.
  • Currently scheduled meetings for Student Conduct and Academic Integrity and Title IX Training and Investigations will take place via Zoom or phone.

Recreational Sports

  • All facilities and vendors/services located inside Gregory Gym are closed. Staff are working remotely during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. All formal programming, organized activities and events are cancelled for the remainder of the semester.

University Health Services

University Housing and Dining

  • The university is requiring students to move out from on-campus residence halls for the rest of the spring semester except for emergency housing cases. View instructions on moving out, prorated adjustments for room and board, and other questions. 
  • Students are still permitted to return to campus to collect their belongings and move out of the residence halls per the City of Austin Stay Home – Work Safe order. The order allows essential travel to return from or to a place of residence from outside the jurisdiction (e.g., returning home from a closing university).
  • Dining and retail locations are closed to the public. Students staying in their residence hall rooms until March 30 and in emergency housing until May 20 will be able to pick up their meals from designated locations. They can also purchase items from the Cypress Bend Café convenience store. View schedule.

University Unions

  • The Texas Union, William C. Powers, Jr. Student Activity Center, Hogg Memorial Auditorium and 2609 University Avenue are closed. The Student Services Building is open Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. with limited ability to enter for University Health Services and Forty Acres Pharmacy. Some staff are working remotely during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
