Faculty Resources for Students

Aug. 23, 2018

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

It’s a new academic year already. As you prepare for the fall semester, I want to share valuable resources for you from the Division of Student Affairs.

As the chief conduct officer and vice president for student affairs, I strongly encourage you to include language in your syllabus regarding your own policy on academic integrity and accommodations for religious holy days. Information about suggested language for both items is available here.

Additional resources from the Division of Student Affairs include:

  • The Office of the Dean of Students has developed a behavior assessment and response tool for faculty in a classroom setting. You can download and print this document for guidance on possible levels of disruption, notable examples and recommended responses. As always, if at any time you feel you may be in danger, call 911 to reach UTPD immediately.
  • The Behavior Concerns Advice Line (BCAL) is a fast and simple way to report any issues or concerns you may have with any member of the university community including students and teaching assistants. You can report your concern any time online or by calling 512-232-5050.
  • The Counseling and Mental Health Center’s Counselors in Academic Residence (CARE) program has placed CARE counselors in 13 colleges and schools to provide accessible support for students who are struggling emotionally and/or academically.
  • As faculty, you have the option to resolve suspected academic integrity violations in your classroom, or refer the matter to the Office of the Dean of Students for investigation. If you choose to resolve academic integrity matters yourself, I encourage you to download the 2018-2019 faculty disposition documents.

Should you have any questions about any of the information shared here, I encourage you to email Andrew Clark, academic and policy administrator, in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Wishing you all the best for a successful year,

Soncia Reagins-Lilly, Ed.D.

Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
