Thank You

March 14, 2020

Dear Student Affairs Team,

It’s been a challenging few weeks for us all as we develop and implement a campus plan to cope with COVID-19. Given yesterday’s news from President Fenves and the closure of campus, I am grateful for how you have gone above and beyond in your work, spending extra time and energy in support of our students, operations and each other.

I acknowledge the feelings of people who are worried about those who are, and will get sick; the concerns about the impacts on our colleagues, friends, families and neighbors; the impact of the worldwide tragedies (or devastation); as well as cancellation of activities on campus and beyond. Let’s go the extra mile to take care of ourselves and each other.

Thank you for your patience while UT Austin leadership works diligently to make decisions as we prepare to move into this new reality. Please know our top priority is the health and safety of our students, staff and faculty; therefore, moving many courses and operations online to help stop the spread of COVID-19 is of critical importance. Soon, the university will distribute guidance about our plans for maintaining modified operations and the steps necessary to ensure a successful transition.

Remember, there are also COVID-19 resources and information for you as outlined yesterday in a message from Darrell Bazzell, senior vice president and chief financial officer. The university’s coronavirus website contains the latest information on what actions we are taking and is continuously updated, including the section on Frequently Asked Questions.

Again, I appreciate all your flexibility and dedication as we navigate these rapidly changing times.

Sincerely,

Soncia Reagins-Lilly

Your Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
