Wise Words from the VP, February 2019

Feb. 5, 2019

What an energetic Division-wide meeting we had, celebrating our team and our Staff Merit Award winners!

Everyone could feel the excitement in the room as we showed appreciation for each other’s hard work and contributions. Our team was attentive and proud to celebrate with their peers. You gave new team members a hearty Texas-sized welcome and applauded each other for years of service.

My hope is that we continue celebrating each other — whether it’s praising someone for a job well done, saying thank you or sending a note of appreciation.

The range of representation of talent among our 2018-19 Staff Merit Award winners reflects our scope, depth and reach.

  • For the past 12 years, Miles Sapp has served as the webmaster in the Office of the Dean of Students. While he may not work directly with students, his care is evident in how he helps remove obstacles for students.
  • With strong roots in University Housing and Dining, Justin Samuel exemplifies the spirit of community. He started his career as a student eight years ago and now is an assistant director of Residence Life.
  • Marilyn Russell has been an integral part of Sorority and Fraternity Life for 10 years and is now the unit’s director. She displays courage when she walks into any space without hesitation, advocating for causes or people she cares about.

Congratulations to these honorees and thanks to each of you for positively guiding the many ways our students pursue their educational journeys. Whether you interact with students or are working behind the scenes, you are a contributing member to the university – keep making a difference!

With gratitude,

Soncia Reagins-Lilly

Your Vice President for Student Affairs
